FAMILY CAMP

This was our second year going to family camp at Camp Harrison and it did not disappoint! Ever since we left last year we have been talking about this year's trip. Bella asked us all summer when it was going to be time for camp again. It is close to Lenoir in Wilkes County, about halfway "up the mountain" to Boone, NC where I went to Appstate. Just being there is enough but there are also horses, ziplines, lake inflatables & slides, games, campfires and more.

When we got there we checked in and got dinner then we headed to our cabin to get settled and get some sleep. Ava fell out of her bed so she ended up in bed with Randy but we eventually moved her mattress to the floor which worked well the next two nights. Bella got a top bunk which is what she used to and Porter slept great and didn't wake the girls at his 5:30 feedings each morning. We got up about 8:00 everyday and headed to breakfast and then made our way to the Dude Ranch to ride horses and feed the goats, pig and alpaca. Bella loves horses and Ava is getting better about them. She has never been a huge fan of live animals, not even cats and dogs. When we were busy feeding the goats, the alpaca came to see what he was missing and eventually the pig did as well. The funny thing was Ava was so intent on keeping her eyes on the goats and alpaca and what they were doing, she never noticed the pig until it was sniffing her hand. We tried to calmly warn her, but failed. She screamed and backed herself up against the fence in sheer terror! Then she started trying to soothe herself saying, "Piggy. Piggy... It's a piggy." Randy and I could barely contain our laughter but of course we felt bad too. After all of that we headed to do crafts where we mostly just painted and then it was time for lunch.

After lunch we went to the lake where we swam and jumped on the trampoline and other inflatables. Then we went for the water zip. Bella wanted to do it right away! She went with Randy first and then she and I went. I lost my bathing suit so decided not to do it anymore. Ha! She and Randy did it once or twice more and then Randy did a few of the other slides. After all of that is was time to shower and go to dinner. They had other inflatables for the kids after dinner plus a pool party. That night ended with an ice cream social and dancing!

Sunday morning we had breakfast and then chapel. The chapel is the most beautiful part of camp in my opinion but my picture is awful in comparison. It overlooks the lake and some small mountains. It is gorgeous. I have gotten much better pictures of it in the past, but this was from the corner where I had taken Porter because he was so fussy! After that we went to ride horses again and do the ropes course...well, Randy did the ropes course and we did the zip line together (Bella and I). After that we had lunch and Porter and I took a nap while Randy and the girls went canoeing. Porter ended up taking an extra long nap so I stayed with him and they headed to the pool for a couple of hours.

After dinner that night there was a talent show and Bella told her two jokes. She also raised her hand to be a volunteer in another boy's act. I was so proud of her! We ended the night with s'mores, a family favorite!!

Our last day there we spent more time doing zip lines and the such. Randy and Bella did the plunge zip several times and Bella did it by herself even more. Randy climbed this huge pole, the "Leap of Faith," and jumped to grab a bar! It was so intense but he did great- not everyone could do it. Ava and I watched some and played "baseball" (which was actually basketball) together. Sadly, it was time to go after that so we packed up the cabin and headed home.

Counting down until next year!
